Why Minecraft is suddenly better than Fortnite

Warning: This isn't a gaming post ;-) Despite its appearances, its title and indeed my continuous rant that games and tech benefit my kids - this one isn’t about that. It’s about an 11-year-old autistic boy who has suddenly realised he might like a friend.

Holiday options for our autistic and neurotypical family

Children with autism are all different and come with their own personalities and abilities. But there are some traits that they will share, such as thriving on routine, as most children do. Set schedules can be what helps them, so the thought of sending them off on holiday can be stressful as it is putting them in a situation completely out of their comfort zone.

Number Day 2020 - onesies to help keep kids safe

This evening, we've been choosing onesies. It's for Number Day at school tomorrow.  All the kids get to dress up in something involving a number. They can go as simple or crazy as they like, from being a number to just wearing a top with a number on it (I've found Gap tops to be a saviour for this as they often have 1969 on them).

Making lanterns for ChineseNewYear

We did this great activity at a Skylarks play sessions making lanterns for Chinese New Year. This is a great motor skills development activity for kids at any stage looking develop them.  It works on cutting and bilateral motor skills with gluing and sticking.

Is my child autistic?

I remember the exact moment when I thought Anthony might be different. When he wasn't doing something that all the other kids in the antenatal mums group were doing.  I had my suspicions and was soon asking myself, is my child autistic?

The lights at Kew with our autistic and neurotypical family

Last weekend saw the end of Christmas at Kew, an after dark winter walk around Kew Gardens full of magical light displays, music and the odd fair ground ride thrown in for good measure. We don't get out much during the holidays but took this special trip out as it appeals to our autistic kids sensory side so much.
