WonderfulWednesday: The latest weather presenter @melaniepeutlefaire

Looking like sunny weather for Melanie

This week's wonderful news piece came via The SEND Parents Handbook facebook page, who highlighted one of articles about Mélanie Ségard, a young women who used social media to help propel herself onto television in France on the 27th of March. According to the Telegraph, Mélanie said that as someone with Down’s Syndrome, it’s a dream she never thought would be possible.

Ms Ségard said: "I am different, but I would like to show everyone that I can do plenty of things. I want to prove it by appearing on TV."

My boys have ASD and ADHD so I have some understanding of being different. All children with Down's syndrome have some degree of learning disability and delayed development, but this varies widely between individual children. Whereas my boys struggle with being social, being chatty and social is a typical strengths in people with Down's Syndrome along with being good at reading.  Skills that could lend themselves well to a weather presenter maybe?

Mélanie challenged French media to offer her the chance to present the weather forecast if her page reached 100,000 likes. Within a matter of days, her page greatly surpassed its goal. It has nearly reached 250,000 likes as of today. Mélanie has already appeared on French TV and radio this week talking about her campaign.  I wish her all the best as she presents the weather for real on 27th March.  High five!
