Our best moments from 2016

Instagram round up

As always our lives have been filled with the unexpected and 2016 was no different. Our beautiful, wonderful and unique children have grown and our family have both tired and flourished. Along with my favourite Instagram photos (above) I'm sharing my top five best moments from the blog this year here, in reverse order.

autism and Olympics

5. We all had great fun watching The Olympics this year. It seems a long time ago but all the kids (just about) were able to watch and enjoy some aspect of the games on television. We played in the day and watched the games before getting ready for bed. It was great, here's what we learned from the games this summer. Coincidentally this matches top pic No.2 on Instagram.

dummy and autism

4. After 4 million minutes, we finally bid farewell to dummies. They have been a staple in our home for a long time, but this year we said goodbye to the soother. It was awesome, read all about it here.

autism and fireworks

3. Our family break for 2016 was in Florida with my extended family. Six adults with five kids, several conditions and disability passes. We had an epic time and our eldest got over his fear of fireworks. It was wonderful, read all about Anthony turning his fears into fancies in Florida here.

2. This post about the first time David said 'love you' will melt your heart. I don't know what else to say except, read it with a tissue.

1. The  best moment for me this year was when Anthony did more than come to terms with his autism. We told Anthony he was autistic before we went on holiday to Florida in the Easter Break.

We knew that we would need to tell several people that Anthony had autism and Anthony was aware enough to listen to our conversations. We wanted to empower him in these situations not hide from him. He didn't seem that surprised or worried when we spoke to him about having both autism and ADHD.

A while later after we were trialling him on some medication to help him at school he said something amazing. To this day it still makes me proud. Read about this autism acceptance here.

Well I hope you've enjoyed my look back at 2016. Looking at the list I don't know what 2017 will bring but we'll be here for each other, whatever it is.

  13. I loved reading about these moments. You have made me think about Disney and autism. I don't think my son is ready to be told what it is yet. I doubt he will understand but we do talk about it openly around him.I just hope we are doing the right thing #WotW sorry it's late x
