No heat required - Easter Chocolate Nests recipe and activity

Easter nests

One of my kids loves cooking and baking but with three kids and some with disabilities, it’s not always easy. Things can get messy and using the hob and oven can be dangerous with them all around.

It's the Easter holidays so we are looking for things to do that the kids can both enjoy and cope with. This great chocolate Easter nests recipe is a one bowl recipe that uses cold ingredients, no melting and no baking so is easy and safe for the kids.

Ingredients for 8 nests

1 banana
2 tbsps butter
2 tbsps icing sugar
2 tbsps cocoa
1 tbsp desiccated coconut (optional) 8 tbsps shredded wheat or crushed shreddies
2 tsps honey
8 big cupcake cases
4 packs of mini eggs or golden galaxy eggs

Method

  1. Mash the banana is a big bowl
  2. Mash in everything else except the shredded wheat or shreddies and coconut
  3. Stir in the shreddies/ shredded wheat and coconut (if you don't use coconut use an extra tbsp of shredded wheat)
  4. Spoon the mixture into the cupcake cases - you can twist them round into a nest shape if you want like we did, but you don't have to
  5. Squash a few mini eggs into each one
  6. Put on a place and put into the fridge to set
  7. Give yourselves a high five and look forward to eating the nests later a hour or so later - perhaps use a timer to let the kids know.

Super quick, super easy and yummy too. All that mashing and stirring is great for the kids fine motor skills development. Kids can get their hands in if they are sensory seekers or use a fork / spoon when they are more adverse.

Hope you enjoy the activity as much as we do.
